A última história dos jornaleiros
A fotografia favorita de Lou Turofsky, nascido em Chicago em 1892, filho de pais imigrantes russos, foi a de um jornaleiro exausto, deitado nos degraus de um edifício.
A imagem de um jornaleiro na chuva no mercado central de Lancaster, na Pensilvânia, foi a inspiração de Marjory Collins, fotógrafa de Nova York, para retratar a vida cotidiana da América em 1941.
Lewis Wickes Hine, um dos maiores fotógrafos americanos usou imagens de jornaleiros para sua denuncia social do trabalho infantil, as fotografias de Hine foram de vital contribuição para que leis de proteção aos jovens fossem criadas nos Estados Unidos, servindo de exemplo para o resto do mundo.
Um jornaleiro numa calçada em Londres eterniza-se numa fotografia icônica. Uma captura com duas narrativas incríveis. A primeira é sobre a sensacional notícia do desastre do Titanic. "Desastre do Titanic, grande perda de vidas” dizia o cartaz que impulsionava as vendas e divulgava um dos mais famosos acidentes da história. A outra é sobre o infortúnio do garoto.
Ned Parfett, dezesseis anos quando vendia jornais, teve sua vida tão curta e tão trágica como a do Titanic. Foi morto durante um bombardeio alemão enquanto soldado do exército britânico na França, poucos dias antes do Armistício, aos 22 anos, seis anos após a fotografia.
No Rio de Janeiro, em 1933, na confluência das ruas Miguel Couto, Ouvidor e Av. Rio Branco, o artista plástico Anísio Mota, inspirado na melancólica composição de Heitor dos Prazeres ergueu uma escultura em homenagem aos anônimos vendedores de jornais.
Histórias não faltam. Os jornaleiros, geralmente crianças, foram os grandes responsáveis pela propagação das notícias, distribuição dos jornais pelas ruas das cidades e ainda por imagens que ficarão para sempre como ícones de um tempo em que os jornais eram os grandes veículos de comunicação.
Hoje, quando esses veículos vão fechando suas portas, fecham-se também as histórias de milhares de meninos pobres que começaram suas vidas vendendo jornais. A tecnologia aos poucos empurra os jornais e os jornaleiros para trás das cortinas. Um novo espetáculo está começando.

Meus parabéns Olavo Saldanha, adorei. De infância quase miserável com cinco irmãos, sem pai. Eles foram engraxates,ficavam em frente ao Quartel da Aeronáutica-Campo dos Afonsos Rj. Hoje dois militares e um professor de E. Física. Eu usei da beleza e falta de oportunidades para arranjar casamento. Onde tive três filhos maravilhosos, que vieram para amenizar minha infância de exploração em casas de parentes para sobreviver. Olavo acho que te escrevo tudo isso, porque por coincidência, hoje voltei a ser humilhada por uma filha de umas das minhas primas e tudo voltou. Lamento pelo falecimento de sua mamãe. A pouco também perdi o marido (Ary do Cavaco) e a ficha ainda não caiu. Adoro poesia, fotos e todo seu trabalho que como leiga acompanho. Um beijo no coração dessa carioca que te aplaude.
